JOB TITLE: Unit Secretary
LOCATION: Providence, RI
HOURS: Per Diem; Evenings Part Time
Works closely with the clinical and medical staff and auxiliary personnel on the patient units whose major responsibility is to perform clerical duties on a nursing unit. Provides clerical support including answering phones, transcribing physicians’ orders, booking diagnostic studies, distributing lab and x-ray reports to appropriate nursing personnel, filing patient charts and other related duties. Acts as information clerk, directing visitors and giving routine information. He/she facilitates the atmosphere of cooperation by being professional, pleasant, and helpful to staff, patients, and families.
Successful candidates will have:
- High school graduate or equivalent, including course in English, typing, spelling and arithmetic.
- A minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required.
- On-the-job training in practices and procedures of the hospital and certain medical terminology.
- Must be able to perform duties under stress and in a busy nurse’ s station.
