Skills for Rhode Island's Future (SkillsRI) is working with numerous partners including the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families to recruit candidates for new registered apprenticeship opportunities in the field of health and human services.

APPRENTICESHIP TITLE: Health and Human Services Registered Apprenticeship (Employment Opportunity)
START DATE: April 30th, 2021 (deadline extended, however space is limited - please act fast!)
TIME/DURATION: Primarily 1st shift hours; dependent on employer; 1 year long apprenticeship
LOCATION: Employer Locations throughout Rhode Island

Rhode Island’s leading human service agencies are seeking candidates with a passion for helping others who are interested in working with children, families, and adults to help them manage family and behavioral health challenges.

These 1-year registered apprenticeship opportunities will allow you to earn while you learn. Participants will be working full-time earning $13.50+ per hour (plus benefits) while also getting free training and mentorship to prepare for a long-term career in health and human services. In addition to wages and benefits, you will receive the following:

  • 12-week Community Health Worker Training and Certification through Rhode Island College’s Institute for Health Care Education
  • One year of on-the-job training and mentorship through one of the following hiring partners:
    • Child and Family
    • Family Service of RI
    • Tides Family Services
    • The Groden Network
    • St. Mary’s Home for Children
    • Community Care Alliance
  • Guaranteed wage increases (one upon completion of the 12-week training and another upon completion of the 1-year apprenticeship)
  • Additional resources and support services through RIReconnect
Apprenticeship opportunities are presently available for the following types of roles:
  • Residential Counselor
  • Residential Case Manager
  • Residential Behavioral Specialist
  • Family Service Care Coordinator / Wraparound Facilitator
  • Community Health Advocate
  • Case Management Assistant
  • Transportation Aide
  • And more!
Duties will be performed in support and compliance with state agencies including the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), and the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS).

SkillsRI will meet with prospective candidates to determine their qualifications, interests and employment needs and will recommend/refer them for suitable apprenticeship opportunities with the partnering agencies.

You may be an ideal candidate if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are 21 years of age or older
  • You have at minimum, a HS diploma or GED; Associates Degree & above welcome to apply
  • You are authorized to work in the United States
  • You are able to pass all required criminal background checks
  • You are proficient in the English language (able to read, write, and speak)
  • You have a valid driver’s license
  • You enjoy working with people and have a passion for helping others
  • You are committed to succeeding in training and on-the-job learning
