Skills for Rhode Island's Future (SkillsRI) is recruiting training candidates for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program (Free training for emergency temporary license and pathway to full certification).

Training Details

Skills for Rhode Island’s Future (SkillsRI) is offering a free CNA Training and Dispatch Service to provide CNA training and per diem employment in congregate care settings; such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The goal of this program is to assist employers facing significant staffing challenges during the COVID-19 crisis.

Candidates enrolled in the CNA Training Program will complete training to earn their Emergency CNA License (ETL) and then begin working as per diem employees in SkillsRI’s Dispatch Service. Candidates that work 40 hours in a congregate care setting through the Dispatch program with their Emergency License are eligible to enroll in the full CNA licensure course. The full licensure course consists of an additional 80 hours of virtual training, followed by the State Licensing Exam.

Candidates will be paid directly by congregate care facilities as per diem employees in the Dispatch Service. Candidates are not employees of SkillsRI. All per diem shifts will be managed through a scheduling application (app) managed by SkillsRI. Candidates will need to complete payroll and other onboarding paperwork at each congregate facility where they work.
 

Ideal Candidate

All candidates must meet the program eligibility requirements listed below:

  • Must be a Rhode Island resident
  • 18+ years of age
  • Authorized to work in the United States (I-9 verification form)
  • Have access to a computer or smartphone to access scheduling program

The training program is designed for individuals who have some entry-level experience in the healthcare field who want to take the next step and become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Examples include experience as a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Home Health Aide, or Pharmacy Technician, though the program is not exclusively for these individuals. If you have a deep interest in working in healthcare, but limited experience, we encourage you to apply and speak with a SkillsRI recruiter.

Additionally, previously working CNA's can become re-certified through this program. These individuals will need to complete the training in full, regardless of prior work experience.
 

How to Apply

Applicants interested in this position will be screened by Skills for Rhode Island’s Future and our training team will work closely with you to help guide you through the steps of the training process.

As part of the application, onboarding and training process, you will need:

  • Copies of immunization records including Flu, Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR), TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis), Tuberculosis (TB), and Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Complete a background check, which will cover Social Security Search, County Criminal, State Criminal, Federal Criminal, National Criminal, National Sex Offender, Social Security Trace, Aliases, Motor Vehicles Record Search
  • Provide a negative drug screen result administered by a third party, TRP Associates.\
  • Submit fingerprints through the Attorney General’s Office
