PrepareRI Program Description: PrepareRI Internship Programs provide paid experiential learning internships for current high school juniors attending public high schools and first-generation college students attending Rhode Island colleges and universities. In addition, we provide work-readiness support and year-round work-based learning programs for Rhode Island public high school and charter school students. Operated by Skills for Rhode Island’s Future (SkillsRI), PrepareRI Internship Programs are funded by the Rhode Island Governor’s Workforce Board and private foundations.

Position Summary
The Education Department at Skills for Rhode Island’s Future serves two branches of the organization, the adult learning population and the youth learning population, K-12 students. SkillsRI currently works to provide career training opportunities to adult job seekers and career readiness opportunities to high school students, grades 9-12, and post-secondary first-generation students attending local colleges and universities. SkillsRI is preparing to expand into primary grades, helping students K-16 to explore and prepare for the careers of the future.  The Career Readiness Instructional Designer will assist in developing a portfolio of contextually rich and rigorous career exploration and work-readiness curriculum and program materials; own the day-to-day execution of year-round career exploration and career-readiness programs and platforms; and assist in facilitating workshops, trainings, student recruitment activities, and relevant courses. This individual will report to and work closely with the Director of Education & Training to ensure on-time delivery of assignments.  

  • Develop content for and assist with the implementation of year-round career readiness programs, trainings, course offerings, and special projects.
  • Demonstrate best practices in the development and delivery of career exploration opportunities, career-readiness curriculum, and course offerings that ensure students, whether youth or adult, are highly prepared for jobs of the future.
  • Assist with developing rigorous, contextualized career-readiness course curricula for all learners (English and Spanish).
  • Support quality programming and innovation through the execution of new initiatives, project designs, and data analysis.
  • Navigate strategic partnerships to help achieve program goals.
  • Prepare reports and provide information, as requested, for communicating with leadership, colleagues, and partners.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of industry and educational trends.
  • Maintain working knowledge of SkillsRI programs and services.
  • Work closely with colleagues on program recruitment, orientation, interview sessions, employer matching, and student coaching.
  • Initiate and foster a culture of diversity of thought, inclusivity, and the advancement of the agency’s mission.

Candidate Profile

  • Ability to communicate professionally across a broad range of constituent groups

  • Ambitious, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • Strong documentation skills, and able to make connections between similar problems.
  • Willingness to work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and overcome challenges
  • Solution-oriented problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize according to business goals
  • Conviction, integrity, honesty, and maturity in all situations

  • 2-4 years of experience in an education setting
  • 2-4 years of experience in a workforce development position
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related fields required
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and learning styles
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Demonstrated experience creating and refining curriculum, training modules, and/or lesson plans
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
